Amelia Grace is 6 years old and is a 1st grader and lives in Baton Rouge. She was diagnosed with epilepsy at 7 months old and was put on medication after having four seizures. Two years later Amelia was seizure free. At age four Amelia began having seizures again and had her first abnormal EEG and was put back on medication. Amelia is a happy 6 six year old . Here is what Amelia had to say about living with epilepsy.
1. What is epilepsy?
Amelia: “Epilepsy is seizures and you have to take medicine.”
2. What is the hardest thing about having epilepsy?
Amelia: “Sometimes you use the bathroom on yourself and remembering to take your medicine”.
3. What would you like people to know about epilepsy?
Amelia: “That there is an epilepsy walk”.
4. What would you like people to know about you?
Amelia’s Mom: “That she is a normal little girl that sometimes has seizures.
5. Does having epilepsy prevent you from doing anything you would like to do?
Amelia: “No”.
6. How would you describe a seizure? What does it feel like?
Amelia: “You use the bathroom on yourself and feel tired”.
7. Are your friends accepting of your epilepsy? Do people pick on you?
Amelia’s Mom: “Her friends are nice and don’t care that she has seizures.
