Kelly Aprill,
Epilepsy Counselor
During my career I have worked in a number of areas of disability case management including Life Care Planning for persons with catastrophic injuries; Vocational, Interest, Intelligence and Aptitude Evaluation; Life Coaching for adults with traumatic brain injuries; Treatment Planning assistant to adults with chronic mental illness; and most recently, Residential Program Coordinator, Home and Life Skills Management for adults with mental retardation and developmental disabilities. Social service has always been of interest to me and my feet are firmly planted in the non-profit sector because I truly believe that this is where I can best use my skills to directly impact client care. I enjoy working where my education and experiences in various social services networks can be of use to the population I am serving. Experience has taught me that our medical/social service delivery systems are most difficult to decipher for those who are the most in need of them. In fact, more often than not, it is the neediest among us, who have the hardest time accessing the very services they are most entitled to and deserving of. This knowledge is what drove me to accept my new position here at the Epilepsy Foundation of Louisiana. When Mrs. Martino expressed to me her need for another counselor on the ground to help get services back up and running smoothly for clients in and around the metro New Orleans area, I knew this was a job for me. I enjoy working directly with clients, as well as interfacing with professionals in the field. I am looking forward to helping the Epilepsy Foundation reestablish a firm and solid footing here in New Orleans as well as across the state. Last years hurricanes caused some drastic problems for our healthcare delivery systems, but I believe we can work together through agencies such as this one to make great changes for the future. I am excited to be part of a team that is working so diligently in assisting clients and health care workers to create a system that allows everyone equal and fair access to necessary medical treatment and follow-up.
